Norderstedt – tesa, an international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, has been awarded the highest possible rating of A by the nonprofit organization CDP for its achievements in climate protection performance and significant progress towards achieving its validated climate goals. This places the company in the top 2% of global companies that are leading the way in terms of climate targets, progress, and sustainability transparency.

On behalf of investors, CDP regularly gathers environmental data on climate change, forest and water management from companies across the entire value chain, and now manages the world's largest database of its kind. Responding to new scientific evidence, stakeholder feedback and market demand for greater environmental transparency, the NGO continues to raise the bar on what constitutes environmental leadership. The measurability and verifiability of actions and results are central to this efforts.

Climate target reached ahead of schedule

tesa has set itself ambitious sustainability goals, relying on a science-based approach and the potential of innovation. tesa’s initial climate target, which was confirmed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), was to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 30% compared to 2018. This target was achieved two years ahead of schedule in 2023 and has now been exceeded significantly with a reduction of 38%. On the path to a more sustainable future, tesa aims to achieve carbon-neutral production (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030 and to reduce indirect emissions along the value chain by one fifth compared to 2018. Since 2020, tesa has purchased 100% renewable energy sources for all its locations worldwide.

"Our dedicated employees, including more than 600 scientists, engineers, and product developers, work tirelessly every day to help decarbonize our portfolio and achieve our goals," said Dr. Norman Goldberg, Chairman of the Executive Board of tesa SE. "With innovative products and processes, tesa is already making significant progress and will continue to do so in the future. We know that a sustainable business approach is not only successful and future-proof, but also the legacy we create for future generations."

There is also positive news in another dimension of the CDP report: tesa has improved its water performance from a grade of C to B- compared to the previous year and is committed to continuing this upward trend.
